ARTISTIC TALENT AND TECHNOLOGICAL PROFICIENCY TV commercials, motion graphics for television, and animated films are three of the most visible products in media arts & animation. But the opportunities in this rapidly expanding field go far beyond the obvious. Animators create scientific and medical visualizations, courtroom reenactments, 3-D architectural simulations, educational materials, advertising, games, and more.
What you’ll study * Begin with a strong foundation in color, design, and drawing. * Learn to apply the twelve traditional animation fundamentals. * Study animation production process, from conceptualization through script development, storyboarding, 2- and 3-D animation techniques and special effects. * Create a portfolio to show prospective employers.
Special features Students work in both Macintosh and PC computer labs, gaining experience with software programs designed to create both 2-D and 3-D animation such as Adobe® Photoshop, Adobe® AfterEffects, procreatetm Paintertm, Macromedia® Flash MX, 3ds Max®, and Maya®, among others.
Career opportunities Animation use is widespread in advertising, broadcast television, film and video production, virtual reality, rides and location-based entertainment, games, architectural, educational, corporate communication, and the legal and insurance industries. Graduates may begin their careers in entry-level positions as modelers, storyboard artists, animation artists, 3-D illustrators, FX artists, broadcast graphic designers, or other entry-level positions. |
