INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT CROWNED
MISS MECKLENBURG/MISS AMERICA
Whitney James, a 21—year-old Interior Design student at The Art Institute of Charlotte has been crowned Miss Mecklenburg County and will compete in June for the Miss North Carolina/Miss America crown.
Whitney is the daughter of Mark and Teresa James of Statesville. She expects to graduate with her Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design in December. Whitney earned an Associate of Arts degree from Mitchell College before entering The Art Institute of Charlotte.
During the local contest, Whitney won the Interview and Talent portions of the contest and garnered the highest score in the swimsuit contest. As her talent, Whitney sang “Almost Like Being In Love.” Previously, Whitney has competed in the Miss Statesville contest.
In the spring of 2004, Chelsea Cooley, a Fashion Marketing student at The Art Institute of Charlotte, was crowned Miss USA and finished in the Top 10 of the Miss World pageant.
