The rise in popularity of digital media production can be traced to the commercial success of the consumer videocassette recorder. Since that time technological advances, such as the advent of digitized photography, video, and film, have brought us camcorders, digital cameras, low-cost editing equipment, audio mixers, and computer-controlled media. With the rise of the Internet and onset of High Definition Television, the need for digital film/video products and qualified professionals will continue to play a major role in communications.
The Digital Media Production program provides students with a comprehensive range of skills required in the marketplace for those involved in video and film production. Film and video production continues to be an important component in international communications. The bachelor's degree program prepares students to seek entry-level positions in businesses and industries that employ broadcast television, video and film production in the course of doing business. Their understanding of the production and post-production process, coupled with their technical skills, will enhance their employment in the field. Digital Media Production graduates will be prepared to seek entry-level employment opportunities such as Production Assistants, Tape Operators, Videographers, A/V Technicians, Assistant Editors, Studio Camera Operators, Production Technicians, Character Generator Operator/ Graphics System Operator, Media Specialist and Associate Producers, but may also find employment as Producers, Directors, Editors, Audio Engineers, Lighting Technicians, Production Coordinators and Broadcast Graphics Designers.
