About Me:
Personal Statement

Fashion is not restricted to only clothing and beauty. Fashion branches out and almost always takes inspiration from other aspects such as culture, society, and overall humanity. It is these influences that fuel my excitement for the fashion industry and help to shape my career choice.

Initially, my love and appreciation of fashion, art, design, and writing began at a young age while learning to express myself. At the age of two or three, my mom helped to harness and develop my creativity by buying cheap water color paint sets and wide ruled paper and then letting me go wild. From that point on, my talents in these areas continued to grow with me. I decided to pursue a career in apparel design and fashion journalism because it combines the two activities that I excel in, writing and illustrating. During my time at The Art Institute of Charlotte, I have continuously developed skill sets in the area of illustration and journalism.
When I began my undergraduate career at the Art Institute of Charlotte, I was exposed to a full range of fashion courses. All these courses reinforced and solidified my intense interest in fashion design, illustration, and fashion journalism. In addition to these, I studied the development of design concepts and project presentation. Each course provided me with a different perspective on the fashion industry and helped me decide the type of career that I want to purse after graduation.
In terms of a career, I see myself working with a design team to create a line of affordable clothing that will inspire a young, fashion-forward, demographic of women. Additionally, it is easy to imagine myself as a writer or graphic designer for a major cultural-social magazine such as Essence or Teen Vogue. An internship with a major magazine would provide me with the practical experience I need to be successful. Also to enhance the skills I have already acquired, additional studies in fashion design, graphic arts and journalism studies would be valuable to me in the future.
