Macromedia Flash and its tools allow designers to create and deliver fast-loading interactive animation, buttons, graphics and sound for the Web with exciting transparency and shape blending effects. This course will teach advanced action scripting to allow students to create sophisticated interactive projects.
Course Length: 11 weeks Contact Hours: 44 hours Credit Value: 3.0 Course Competencies
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of variables, functions, arrays and objects. 2. Use advanced action script writing techniques to produce more efficient Flash projects. 3. Produce and present logical standard structured code. 4. Create complex dynamic projects, while considering file size and download times. 5. Create programs that respond to user events.

Week 1 - Review of Animation for Multimedia. - Instance names standardizing and controlling multiple timelines. - Loading and unloading movies & controlling their timelines. - Writing more efficient Dot Syntax code for buttons and movie clips. -Using functions to control button and movie clip events. - Loading of data thru text files & editable text.
Week 2 - Flash interactivity with HTML and Javascript. - Advanced action script - Functions & Arrays. - Build an example using Functions. - Build an example using Arrays. - Assignment 1
Week 3 - Assignment 1 due at beginning of class - Viewing of Assignment 1 created by students - Advanced action script - Dynamic Data & Working with External Scripts - Build an example using Dynamic Data. - Build an example using External Scripts. - Assignment 2 - Workshop (Assignment 2)
Week 4 - Assignment 2 due at beginning of class - Viewing of Assignment 2 created by students - Advanced action script - Working with Objects - Build an example using Objects - Assignment 3 - Workshop (Assignment 3) - Project outline complete for Assignment 3 by end of class
Week 5 - Midterm (Practical) - Workshop (Assignment 3)
Week 6 - Assignment 3 due at beginning of class - Viewing of Assignment 3 created by students - Flash Design considerations - Publishing your work - Testing & Debugging - Distribution
Week 7 Workshop - Begin Planning of Final Flash project - Work on Structure/Flowchart for Final project - Final project Storyboard complete - Begin Beta stage of Final Project
